Freedom of Information Handbook

The Guide provides instructions on obtaining information through the Freedom of Information Act and several links to information and/or documents that are useful to the requestor.

• Effective July 1, 2002, the search and review rates for processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests within the Department of Defense increased at the recommendation of the General Accounting Office (GAO). Clerical fees will be $20.00 per hour and professional fees will be $44.00 per hour. For additional information, consult 32 Code of Federal Regulations Part 286.
